If you simply install Windows 10 over it, the old operating system will be archived. You only unnecessarily steals space, which is not necessary. So my well-intentioned tip, format the hard drive and then install Windows 10.

If you do not have a "product key label" attached to this notebook, you should read the product key with a suitable tool as a precaution so that it is not lost in case it does. Especially since you could also reinstall Windows 7.

Download the free tool, read the Windows product key, write it down or save it somewhere safe.

Depending on which Windows 7 version is installed, you are entitled to use either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. If it is Windows 7 Home Premium, you choose Windows 10 Home during the installation.

For all other versions above (Professional or Ultimate), you can select and enable Windows 10 Pro during installation. If something is unclear or there's another question, just make a post.
