I don't think there are any real reasons for that except that it's just fun to play with. In your case, your mother still has the advantage that she will probably have the laptop for herself. If your mother still says no, just ask her why she doesn't want you to buy an X box. Then you can answer your mother's concerns or find any regulations with which your mother agrees.
