How do I install Linux on another laptop?

I have a Windows 7 laptop and another one that I reset. I put it up for sale but nobody wanted it. So I want to use it, but since a Windows key is too expensive for me and I have seen that Linux is free, I wanted to ask how I can install Linux on it and what do I have to pay attention to?

You download a Linux image, for example Linux Mint or Ubuntu (at least the two most popular ones for beginners) and either burn this onto a CD / DVD (if the laptop has a corresponding drive) or write it with a program like etcher on a USB stick.

Then you just have to boot from the CD or stick and follow the installation instructions.

Thank you the answer was understandable for me even for a beginner.

If you had made an image backup of the LT back then, you could restore it in no time.

If the LT has a CD drive, you could use an iso installation disk, e.g. Install Ubuntu or Xubuntu easily. Otherwise you will have to perform the installation with a USB stick.

With an intact computer you can download the corresponding installation file (iso) and burn it to CD or use it to create an installable stick.

The installation itself is carried out via dialog.

Here you can find Linux Mint

https://linuxmint.com/...wnload.php

And here Ubuntu

And here you can find etcher for writing on USB sticks

With pleasure.

By the way, on ubuntuusers.de you can also find what is probably the largest German-language forum and wiki on Linux.

You can find help quickly for pretty much every question

The Mint ISO file (the most popular Linux) is available free of charge on linuxmint.com. After the download, simply write to a USB pen (or DVD - if a drive is available) with the free Etcher program and boot the computer from it. As soon as the elegant Mint desktop appears, all programs can be tried out live. The operation is very simple, like with Win7.

To install it, click the install icon on the Mint desktop, so Mint can be installed on the disk and used permanently free of charge and without spying. Linux does not require a payment key or virus scanner. All programs that I need are included as a full version: Libre Office, secure browser, drawing program, PDF software, photo editing, media center, cloning program, well-stocked AppShop. Any Linux beginner gets along well with it.

Installation alongside Windows (if applicable) is also possible, simply select the appropriate option in the dialog.
