Which programs to uninstall?

Ma

I just want my laptop to get faster again, but I don't know how…

Gr

Setting up a new one is always an option. Without knowing which programs you have on your PC one can't help you with your questions.

Su

It's best to attach a screenshot so we can see what you've installed. But the best thing would really be to set up the PC again.

ba

Enter disk cleanup in the search box. You do it.

Then again with system data.

Of course, you can also uninstall programs that are not in use.

Ma

I actually want to keep my programs, but I mainly want my laptop to get faster again

Su

Then I would still save important data and set up the PC again. After that he is significantly faster.

Tr

I would knock Avast down, or at least reduce the maximum load in Avast.

Antivirus programs slow down the whole PC because they always scan every file, connection, or sometimes even the entire hard drive for viruses. Windows 10 comes with an antivirus by default (Windows Defender), which is actually enough.

You should also look through your services and turn off the automatic start for all services of installed programs (e.g. Steam). For some, this can also be done in the Task Manager at Autostart. Then your PC will run faster because there's not so much on in the background.

Ma

How should I reduce the workload? Please explain that to me, I don't check

Ma

Avast is a virus program that runs on me on a premium subscription, why should I knock it off?

Tr

In the settings of the program. You can normally change how much workload it is allowed to use.

Tr

Because it slows down the computer. You asked how to make it faster, and that's how. ^^

But yes, of course it's stupid if you pay for it. Hence the second suggestion to turn everything down in the settings of the antivirus.

Ma

How do I screw something down? I don't check what do you mean? Please describe and explain to me

Tr

I don't have an Avast, so I can't tell you exactly. But there are certainly attitudes.

Just open Avast and look for the settings (a gear is often used as a symbol for settings).

Ma

Which setting?

Ma

What do you mean by lowering performance =?

Tr

YOUR ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM SETTINGS

Ma

YES, BUT WHICH SETTING? Mmm?

Tr

All that are not absolutely necessary.

Ma

You said: reduce the workload: what do you mean?

Tr

Deactivate things and put them down.

In Avast there are settings for how often your PC should be scanned, at what intervals, what exactly should be scanned (emails, files, connections, etc.), etc.

Put everything to the minimum. Only leave what you think is urgently needed.

Found a video here, just do that:

Then your PC should at least run a little faster.

Gu

Do away with Avast security and cleanup, it doesn't help and only makes the PC slower. Windows Defender is the best antivirus program because it is already preinstalled and clean ups and acceleration apps don't do anything - they just make the PC slower. And remove unnecessary files e.g. Pictures, videos… Etc. And put them on a USB stick or an external hard drive

Ma

I have avast in a premium subscription
I will not "remove" avast because it is my virus program that I use
Windows Defender is deactivated by default and I can no longer activate it. That's a good thing, and I also have AVAST
