False statements by the police, relevant in court or not?

Let's assume someone (over 18, no criminal record) has a dispute with his ex. When you visit her, you steal her laptop for 2,000 euro because there are private photos on it and disappear immediately. Sure, a few minutes later you will get a visit from the police. The police are said to have stolen the laptop and threw it into the lake. They record everything and you get a display.

In court you are insightful and tell the judge that you have said something wrong to the police. It only took a little time to build the hard drive out of the laptop. You have installed a new hard drive and you still have the laptop, which you then give back to the ex. So you just threw the hard drive into the lake a few days after the police were there.

Would this reduce the sentence and how much would it be? You only stole the hard drive for 200 euro, but installed a brand new one. Nobody has ever gone to jail for 200 euro.

You stole the laptop, not the hard drive. And it will probably not reduce the sentence, stolen is stolen. In order to delete the pictures one could have looked for the conversation and would not have had to commit a criminal offense. In addition, it is evidence of criminal energy to lie to the police to accomplish the deed / achieve its purpose. The I'm sorry number will be late. You could have said anything before the trial and reported or given the laptop back.

Can misunderstand. The embezzlement does not refer to the computer but to the hard drive as explained below.
