What should I look out for when buying a laptop?

Currently my district is on "yellow" of the corona measures.

From today we have to wear masks in the office.
I have vocational school next week. 2 weeks ago when I had vocational school it was chaotic anyway. On Thursday min. 3 classes sent home. In the afternoon there was an announcement that masks are again required everywhere.

We have received online access for Office 365.

Now. Now I need a new laptop because my current one takes 20 minutes to send an email.

Would then also need the laptop for home office. This means that the "iTWO Civil" and "Allplan" Tip Top drawing programs should work there.

What should I pay attention to? Which laptop is good?

ei

Depends on how much money you want to spend.

Si

I would choose an HP.

How about a full backup on a USB hard drive, e.g. WD 2 TB approx. 70 euro and a recovery cd and then restoring the PC, because the new PC will also slow down after a running time.

The main memory is better 16GB than 8GB.

This also applies to your current one

pe

I5 processor minimum.

SSD should also be installed.

I also consider 8GB RAM memory to be a minimum.

For me these are the indicators when a laptop might be of interest to me. In my opinion, Acer is the best manufacturer in the price-performance area and has one of the best support sites as well as support services.

Kr

What you need are 2x8GB ram, processor with 4 cores with 8 threads or 6 cores.

don't know how mobile it should be. Do you want to take it with you to school / work, or is it more like a PC at home?

Kr

It won't need a LOT of storage, it will need durable storage. So he can buy an external ssd, or a USB stick (if he can find it again.)

El

More like a PC at home. I have my computer at work and I don't really need it at school. But it would still be good if it was a bit mobile, in case I had to take it to school with me

El

There's no limit

Kr

This is actually made for your area of application: https://hardwarerat.de/...0-pro?c=66 at least according to the system requirements that are available for your programs on the website

Kr

Or, if you want a bigger screen and you don't care about the weight, then the: https://hardwarerat.de/...-pro?c=122 can be easily repaired and you can also play current titles with it, I don't know whether they play PC games at all. If you don't do that at all, it would be the worse choice

El

So currently I don't play PC games because my laptop is old. But would also like to gamble with it.

Kr

Well, the boldest thing I could recommend as suitable for your purpose would be this one: https://hardwarerat.de/...-pro?c=122 everything about it would be completely disproportionate ^^ it can also display the very latest top titles in maximum detail.

El

Okay, it's a bit very expensive on the fast.

Kr

Is also completely unnecessary ^^

Kr

The one here does totally: https://hardwarerat.de/...-pro?c=122 and if there's anything, you can easily unscrew it and repair it, or after the warranty has expired, still have it done fairly cheaply by hardware advice. But the case shouldn't cause any problems to replace the ssd or to clean the fan. You can even change the processor later, because this is the normal Intel 1200 desktop socket. The 10900k also fits on it ^^

te

A matter of taste, I've always had dells (before the nibbled apples). IBM or Lenovo they are now also quite ok but not as good as before.

Kr

Completely unsuitable for your purposes. It only has 8GB of ram, and ram is pretty much the most important thing you need for your programs!

El

Would you prefer at least 16 GB of RAM?

Kr

Exactly, divided into 2 ram modules

El

How do I know it's split into 2 ram modules?

Kr

Is usually written somewhere, otherwise research or you ask me.

El
Kr

Also only single ram. You can have a look around here: https://geizhals.de/...de/?cat=nb I would still recommend a hardware advice laptop, because it is much easier to unscrew, repair and clean.

El

https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

e.g. Like this?

(Sorry if I annoy you.)

El

Do not want an installment loan - purchase. That's why I'm looking elsewhere.

Kr

Who is asking you to buy in installments? Huh?

El

No, I want to pay it off in installments.

https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

How is that now?

Kr

Don't know, a bigger screen would make sense for your work. If you don't need that, the choice will be huge. I don't think much of buying a laptop in installments. Especially not one that is difficult to repair.

Si

At almost 800 euro and only 8GB of RAM: far too expensive for me.
