I recently got a toshiba satellite L500-17c and I would like to have 8GB RAM in it because 4GB is a bit slow for me in win 10 but the laptop had DDR 2 and I don't want to pay 100 euro for an old laptop RAM so ask I wonder if I can simply mod the ddr2 slots so that I can use the ddr 3
Nope, unfortunately that is not possible. So you have to be content with DDR2 … However, you have already noticed that it doesn't make any sense. 4GB DDR2 bars are very expensive. Sure, they haven't been made for years and anyone who has such a pair will not want to give them up.
The conversion would theoretically be possible so that the bolt then fits in.
BUT your BIOS won't recognize the latch and you'll just see a black screen. Otherwise you could convert DDR3 again to DDR4😂
Industry doesn't make it that easy for us.
Hmm that kind of modding will release magic smoke ^^

Would it be sensible if i just looked for a new laptop?
DDR 2 uses different pins, different voltages, and different controllers than DDR3. You can't exchange them for each other, especially since the processor has a say in the matter. So, even if you managed to somehow get a DDR3 bar on it, it would smoke and then the mainboard would be gone. Unfortunately this is not possible. DDR2 is really very old, which is why it is so expensive, it is no longer available anywhere. When I think about which CPUs support DDR2, a RAM upgrade won't do you much good either. I'm afraid the box has slowly become obsolete.
Could I buy another board with DDR3 on it?
Looking for a new laptop is the smartest thing to do. Then you have something for the future. You can't just switch the board to DDR3. The new board probably wouldn't fit in your laptop.
I found one and it's exactly the same just with ddr3
The connection is a little different. That doesn't fit in there
