Convertible reMarkable or similar To take notes in the university (medical technology / engineer)?

I'm studying medical technology, i.e. An engineering degree, correspondingly with subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, sometimes a little programming, etc., and am now looking for a paperless alternative to taking notes. I don't want to have to carry a lot of blocks and individual pieces of paper and fly around, but rather everything digitally. But since I also have to "draw" a lot (math, chemistry, structural formulas, etc.), I can't quite get by with a normal laptop. I had therefore thought of a convertible because I can take notes by hand in tablet mode, so to speak. Then I saw that there's a kind of tablet like the reMarkable or something that could also replace paper and now I'm wondering which is the better option for me.

I already have a normal laptop that also works quite well for normal typing and creating PowerPoint, even if it is already 6-8 years old. Therefore the question, is it worth buying a convertible, then I should have given up replacing my old laptop, or should the comparatively cheaper version like a reMarkable 2 last as long as it runs well?

Do you have any experience with it and can I recommend a device that works well? Price is secondary, please no high-end device, I really only need it for university, but since it is not in a hurry I can also wait for a good offer.

I would take a Microsoft Surface.

The whole thing mostly depends on the font recognition. This is rather difficult with formulas. You won't get past TeX (or LaTeX) anyway.

If you don't want an OCR or the like, I would just scan it.

I would also recommend a Microsoft Surface. Should even give a small educational discount.
