The Ipad Air 4 is coming out at the weekend, and I've been thinking about getting a device for digital note-taking for university (and multimedia) for a while now. However, we also program a lot in C ++ / C during our studies, so in the future it would be better to buy a laptop that can also be used as a convertible.
My problem, however, is: The software and hardware of Ipads are very good, so that they are more suitable for taking notes than a convertible laptop. The problem with laptops, however, is that the cheaper they are, the less they meet my requirements (compact, low weight, long battery life, good sharp display, etc.). For a very good and inexpensive laptop, we're already at over 1000 euro (Lenovo C940, Dell XPS 13 2020).
I'm also thinking that in a two-year period I will still be studying (then hopefully in attendance again) and not necessarily want to buy a new device again.
Therefore, my question is whether I should do without the Ipad Air 4 (approx. 590 euro with education discount) and invest the money in a strong convertible, or rather buy the Ipad Air 4 and then simply use my mediocre one in the future Acer Aspire 3 (Intel core i3, 8gb ram, 120 gb ssd)?
The Ipad Air 4 would be my very first Apple product, so I'm a little unsure. Nevertheless, I only hear and read good things about Apple's Ipads. I also thought about a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (+) because I own an S20, but the tests on Notebookcheck.de have clearly shown that the performance, performance and software of Ipads can't be beat. In addition, the Ipad Air 4 now has a USB-C connection and is compatible with the Pencil 2, which made me very happy.
So do you prefer a laptop or is it worth an Ipad (Air 4)?
An iPad makes no sense for programmers.
I went with the Surface Book 2 as it can be both a real tablet and a real laptop. A disaster as a tablet, since Windows, but okay for taking notes. The pen is also available directly from MS.
I use Apple as a tablet and as a mobile phone and I'm very satisfied with both.
I'm currently in training myself (but in nursing).
I also thought about getting a tray for notes.
Meanwhile, I'm glad that I got a laptop (gamer laptop) with a large screen (17 inches). At least that's more pleasant, I think.
For example this Lenovo Yoga 6

Thanks for the answer.
I bought the Surface Book 2 myself for Black Friday at Media Markt last year and had only bad experiences. The display was already a little damaged (pen warped while writing), I handed it in at Media Markt for repair. Got a used one that was just as damaged and after a lot of back and forth finally asked for the money back from Media Markt. Luckily that turned out well, I had invested 1400 euro (!).
Basically, I was also satisfied with the Book as a pure laptop, but the tablet mode was not so nice.
What do you mean by "warped"? Sometimes such small wobbly lines? That would be the only negative thing I noticed about the device.
Well, yes, it was shaking, but the top bar of the screen kept flickering, which I think was the trigger for the shaking.
