Hdmi on VGA connected to old monitor now I have no sound anymore how can I change that I have sound again?

I have a new notebook and an old VGA monitor that I would like to continue using. So I ordered an HDMI to VGA cable but now I have no sound either on the second monitor or on the notebook monitor. The sound is only back when I remove the HDMI cable.

Now my question can I set it somehow that I have sound on the notebook itself and also hear sound when I play or put videos on the second monitor? And if so how?

Or will I basically have no sound when the HDMI cable goes to the VGA connection?

I look forward to your quick reply and thank you for your help

VGA does not transmit TON.

Simply change the playback device.

How?
Simply googling:

Playback device + your operating system

Now also connect a speaker cable. With HDMI, sound is also transmitted; not with VGA.

The questioner may even be aware of this. But it wasn't the question. He doesn't want to transfer the sound to the monitor or anywhere else. He wants to take the laptop speakers

That is not the question…

That is the question:

Now my question can I set it somehow that I have sound on the notebook itself and also hear sound when I play or put videos on the second monitor? And if so how?

Well - I would see the last question as the decisive factor.

On the old PC, I also connected the monitor and, if I put YouTube on the external monitor, I could hear as much as I know the sound of the videos and also the sound from the main computer (all in one).

Apparently a system is outputting the sound via the HDMI cable.

In itself, it should be sufficient to select the audio device appropriately in the corresponding settings so that the sound is output correctly again.

You can find the settings in the Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Manage audio devices (Old Control Panel)

I can't give you any instructions for the new control panel, I don't have a device with it at hand. Since you can also go to the old control panel. To do this, open Windows Explorer (file manager) and open the drop-down menu at the first arrow in the path bar and select "Control Panel".

Does the monitor have speakers? Probably not! Even if you had to transmit the sound extra. Either 'eject' from the HDMI signal, but many HDMI-VGA adapters have an extra 3.5 jack socket for speakers, OR you connect the laptop directly to speakers, which you still have to activate, if necessary!

The simplest has already been mentioned. Simply use the internal speakers despite the 2nd monitor. For that you have to activate it if you connect a second monitor!

Do you mean the:

Or will I basically have no sound when the HDMI cable goes to the VGA connection?

Then your answer is wrong or at least not quite right

De

VGA definitely does not transmit an audio signal.

Yes, I know, but he definitely doesn't need an external speaker either.

De

That's true.
