Have a ThinkPad with win10 on Internet HDD.
I wanted to install on the 2nd SSD (with Case in Rom drive) Linux Mint Cinnamon and select at startup whether I want to start Win 10 or Linux (excellent).
SSD was recognized, Linux on it packed and computer restarted. Of course, Win 10 started automatically. So second restart, while BIOS (ThinkVantage) enabled and SSD to boot selected. Unfortunately, without success, nothing happens.
Does anyone have any advice?
Where did you install the Linux bootloader grub?
Not at all, just formatted the ssd over booted usb and then let cinnamon play on it
Then it is because, without grub (or for the older like also lilo) no linux boot.
Install Grub on the Linux disk and set in the BIOS to boot from the latter.
Btw.: I have completely decoupled and always put in the BIOS. Since I almost never use Windows, that's pretty much banana.
Could you give me a brief guide or a Youtube video?
There are several possibilities. The easiest way for beginners: Write the Linux Mint on a USB stick (as with Windows, I do not know, under Linux, this is easy with dd if = / my / mint.iso of = / dev / sdb where mint.iso the iso image of the Mint DVD is and / dev / sdb the USB stick.
Boats from the USB stick and then start the installation routine of Mint. Follow the instructions on the screen and if the question comes to Grub, install the in the MBR of the SSD. When that's done, you can select by disk selection in Bios / EFI SSD and your Linux starts.
I have everything to the point with grub and mbr. I find nowhere in the steps of any of the two words.
Comes to Mint iirc shortly before the end of the installation, but I just do not know by heart.
I could now write you the exact commands for the terminal you have to enter so that the boot loader is re-configured. I think it makes little sense would have sunst you have not asked the question sooo. Here's my advice, this always works if you need to fix the boot loader (for whatever reason). Download the Boot-Rerpear-Dist, burn the ISO on a CD or on a bootable stick, restart your PC and boot from the Dist or Stick… Now you just have to follow the instructions.
