BUILD NAS SERVER FROM OLD LAPTOP?

I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD A SERVER FROM MY LAPTOP TO EXPLOIT DATA WITH MY PC AND OTHER DEVICES! I'm PARTLY IN THE DIFFERENT NETWORKS WITH THE DEVICES, FTP DOES NOT WORK THIS! IS THIS AS AN EXAMPLE WITH OPENMEDIAVAULT?
