High RAM utilization?

My laptop (16GB RAM) does not use around 6GB RAM even when the application is running. Maybe someone would have a solution for that.

Sh

What do you mind about it?

At least 10GB are still available.

Then you most likely have quite a few background processes running. Open the task manager via "Enter text to search" and see what programs are running. Most of the time there are antivirus programs running in the background, but I definitely wouldn't quit them. But something like Voicemod or Skype can run in the background and, when not in use, only eats memory.

au

Well, but if you really need the 16GB, and 6GB just go for nothing, then the question makes perfect sense

Ex

Yes thank you

li

Why want to make funereal against it? It would be nicer if Windows used 16 GB while idling, empty RAM is the most senseless thing there's in a PC.

au

I don't want to scare you or anything, but it can of course also be the case that you have a hacker on your PC who is doing things in the background that use up your RAM. So if you should notice something strange (programs that you haven't installed, your mouse pointer becomes independent or files suddenly disappear) you should definitely reset your PC

li

But they are cleared as soon as they are needed for relevant things, they are not permanently blocked but the content of the RAM is dynamically filled with relevant data. When idling, data is already held that you might use right away and thus the system runs faster, if I start an application that requires a lot of RAM, RAM is released for this application.

Sh

The 6GB is not for NIX but for the operating system.

And a not insignificant part of it is VRAM - hard disk cache that Windows makes sensible use and releases again when necessary.

au

I want to see the operating system eats the 6GB idle. The VRAM, ok yes it is there, but it doesn't need 6GB either

Sh

I then start an application that requires a lot of RAM and frees up RAM for this application.

It is exactly like that.

hu

My computers start with around 4 GB of RAM. This levels off at around 10 GB during operation.

Unused RAM is like throwing money away.

au

As I understood the question, he can't use this 6GB and wants to do something about it, or did I misunderstand something?

hu

I understand that he is annoyed about the occupied 6 GB.

Sh

But there's no reason for that.

au

Then we must wait for the questioner to give us information. I may well be wrong
