Does Amazon have problems with returning suspect external hard drive, data erasure is not possible because no access to HDD?

Amazon writes in the Return Policy that personal data must be deleted, unfortunately I do not get any access to the hard drive. Does Amazon check the hard drives for the defect or the data? Hard drive was connected to the notebook, notebook battery was empty and notebook was driven down, since then disk is no longer recognized, so I go from a defect of the plate.

If you can't get access to the disk anymore, it is your risk that the data on it will fall into the wrong hands.

Probably Amazon will dispose of the disk, but surely you can't be.

Then it does not matter. The note from Amazon should only point out that you can't store any personal information.

Nobody cares. It's all about protecting your personal information. Also, Amazon does not care, but they have to give you this hint.
