My mother's laptop (Sony vaio - Windows 7) can't be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi. When I call Device Manager, it only shows Bluetooth and Ethernet on the network adapters. Have tried to reinstall the drivers (Atheros), but that does not work, since these are apparently already installed.
You only need the right driver.
Easy to install and good. You do not have to uninstall.
In case of doubt, you can simply delete the wlan adapter in the device manager. When restarting a corresponding operating system should choose the default driver, or it must then just mandatory a driver to be installed.
Update driver
Before you screw around at the drivers, look for the case, if it has a switch for switching off the WLAN. Sometimes it's also a Fn key combination. If the adapter does not show up in the device manager, that is also not with yellow exclamation points in another category, then that is usually out or broken.
