I want to play in a smaller club at the end of summer. (or has the club in front of me to plan (will be my first time live) At the moment I use a Pioneer DDJ-Sb3 with Serato Dj lite at home with which I try out. In the club (at least according to some pictures) 2 cdj 200 seem and a djm to be present. What do I have to adjust to there. Can I connect my laptop directly plug and play via usb (if so, simply to the djm?)… Is the setup of serato then regarded as a midi controller? For serato do an update to pro or do I even need any drivers? Or is it possible. Not at all.
In addition, I have the hot cues on the bottom of the controller on my midi controller. How does it look with the nexus. In my opinion they are there by the side. Can I just assign the hot cues just as easily (so just press the hotcue button and then the point is set for the respective song?) Or do the hot cues saved in Serato remain and do I only need to press the hotcue when I need them?
What tips can you give me for my first appearance?
PS: Sorry if some of the questions raised here may sound stupid and unprofessional. I'm just excited and just want to completely secure myself again.
So the first question: Do you really mean CDJ200 or the 2000?
What kind of DJM is on site do you know?
With the 2000 you can control Serato directly, but only the Pro variant. As far as I know, the Lite does not work.
If you play through Serato, the hot cues are stored in Serato. So you can control them via the CDJ as normal.
If you only use the CDJ as a controller, they act as the controller of your software and you simply control everything that you have been able to control so far.
I wrote 200 … Of course I meant the 2000nxs. Unfortunately, I can't provide any information at djm. But what seems to be higher quality? So I connect my laptop (with the necessary upgrade to serato pro) to the djm and can I use it like a midi controller? (What is the connection between the laptop and the club technology? Usb?). Do I need any other driver software or is the update to pro plug & play?
OK everything good!
Would inquire here exactly, because not all are compatible with Serato. It must be a DJM 850, 900NXS or 900NXS2. You already need drivers for the mixer, but you should suggest it when connecting the mixer.
How it all works:
The 2 CJDs act as pure midi controllers and do not need a connection to the mixer. (here you have to set which decks you want to control with which CDJ)
The mixer is also connected to the laptop via USB. This acts as a sound card. The sound comes from your laptop alone and is reproduced via the mixer on the club system. You also have to specify the PC as the source on the mixer.
All you have to do is connect all three devices to your PC via USB, install the driver for the mixer and choose the right sources. That's it.
Here is a video that explains it quite well:
Hope I could help and feel free to report any questions!
Ups added another answer.
A lot has already been said here about the technical periphery. My urgent advice is to try the setup with your laptop a few days BEFORE the actual gig. In theory, such setups are always very simple. In practice, unfortunately, experience has shown that there are small details. That gives you stress on the evening, which can definitely be avoided!
Frankly speaking, the switch from an SB to a Nexus setup is huge! It is hardly cheaper than with an SB. There's hardly a higher quality than with a Nexus setup. The differences in operation are correspondingly large! So you should not try to change the setup "just like that", but you should familiarize yourself beforehand!
And finally: say goodbye to Serato DJ Lite as soon as possible! Your software version will not be able to communicate with the Nexus setup in the club anyway. In addition, the range of functions is massively limited. So be sure to date the full version of Serato DJ Pro up as soon as possible!

In any case, I wish you much success and, above all, a lot of fun with your music!
