The microphone of my headset does not work, so I want to use the built-in microphone of my laptop. I still want to use my headphones. Whether I've connected the headset or not, the recording settings will always show only "Microphone - Realtek High Definition Audio" and "Stereo Mix", and the Device Manager will also show only "Microphone" and "Stereo Mix" as inputs (and of course "Speaker" as the output, but because only speakers, whether the headset is there or not).
My computer is running on Windows 10.
Cause: It is quite possible that the driver will display the internal and the headset as one and the same device. He then switches internally. You would need a driver that keeps the two microphones apart and displays them as two separate devices (as it sounds to me). Well, before you go now to the hopeless search for appropriate drivers, (can't imagine that you find something or would be able to program something yourself), I recommend you "trick" your PC as follows:
Solution: Plug in a 3-pin Y-adapter or a 3-pin extension cable. That he is 3-pin is important.
You probably have a 4-pin headset that was (once) used for smartphones (before manufacturers started removing the jacks). Do you now through the 3-pin adapter the fourth contact away, then the PC thinks it would be just normal headphones (without mic) turn and does not switch to.
