I bought an antenna for Wi-Fi a week ago. The router also sends Wi-Fi, but this signal doesn't really smell into the study, which is located in the attic. But there's my permanent computer, which is connected via LAN and you can surf the web quickly with it. But since this PC doesn't have a WLAN card, I thought that I would buy such an antenna (see link) and thus maybe activate the "mobile hotspot function". That worked, but the internet via this hotspot fluctuates a lot. I actually wanted to use it to connect my laptop and do my video conferences, but that's not possible. I can always hear and see something for two seconds, and then it stops again.

Do you have a tip for me, or do you think that I should send the antenna back?
PS: It's not the data rate, I have a stable 50MB.
In my experience, a new antenna is only slightly more stable. The decisive factor is always the Wi-Fi chip behind the antenna. There are also too many inadequate Wi-Fi adapters via USB.

this is the best USB Wi-Fi adapter for a reasonable price. The length of the antenna doesn't make much difference.
Thanks for the answer, I'll think about whether I might get this one
I can also recommend this one: https://www.amazon.de/...07XCMBLBJ/
This supports dual band WLAN. In the 2.4 GHz band it achieves up to 300 Mbit / s and in the 5 GHz band up to 867 Mbit / s.
The setup is very easy. After plugging in the stick, press the WPS button on the stick. Then press the WPS button on the router within 2 minutes. And the connection is already established.
I also have this stick and I'm completely satisfied with it. The connection is fast and stable. I then aligned the antenna so that I had the highest possible signal strength. I connected the stick via a USB extension cable.

But then I would be happy.
If radio waves smelled - my goodness… 😱

The thing has an antenna - but it's not an antenna.
No, a WLAN hotspot, as with Android / iPhone, is not possible.
That would be complete nonsense in view of the horrendous power consumption of the PC.
Nope, if you already have a LAN cable in your room, then this is the perfect situation to use a WLAN access point.
It is simply clamped to the LAN cable and creates its own wireless network. If necessary, a LAN switch must be connected between the LAN cable and the access point if the AP does not have enough LAN ports.
If you have a Fritzbox and money doesn't really matter, the https://avm.de/...ater-6000/ would be a first-class "Fire & Forget" solution. For about half there's the 3000er. But it doesn't have WLAN6 on board yet.
In general, alternative products are also possible.
