Can one on each laptop with e.g. Windows Vista or Windows 7 … Install Windows 10?

Sh

You can try it at least once.

In terms of performance, most computers running Vista should also be able to do Windows10. The requirements are similar.

However, there are not always Windows10 drivers for these devices.

br

Almost always. There are exceptions as usual. But it is rare. Problems are mostly with old SIS graphics chip.

But otherwise almost always YES.

Hereby you can do the testing:

Correct, with too old hardware components like the chipset in particular, it is quite possible that a driver support for this was not continued beyond Windows 7 / 8.1.

Sh

That's the way it is.

Since Linux (Distri) is much better.

For many Linux distributions, the kernel is the module most importantly, which sometimes includes all (most) hardware drivers. And in most cases you can even run over 10 years old hardware with a current Linux kernel, where there are already no longer any Windows drivers from the manufacturer. Therefore, Linux (distris) is much more flexible than MS Windows. I still appreciate such an advantage today.

As a Windows Vista user you have to buy a paid license. If you have Windows 7, you can always install it for free. The product key of Windows 7 is also accepted in the Windows 10 installation.

I recommend for those who have Windows Vista to install a Linux distribution. For example, Lubuntu. This is an official Ubuntu devirat, except that Lubuntu uses the LXDE desktop. Otherwise it is 100% compatible with Ubuntu. Here is the download of the current stable long-term support version:

32bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...p-i386.iso If you have Windows Vista 32bit.
64bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...-amd64.iso If you have Windows Vista 64bit.

Then write the ISO with this tool https://unetbootin.github.io/ on a blank formatted USB stick. If you can't boot from USB, here is a bootable CD containing a USB bootloader: https://download.plop.at/plopkexec/plopkexec.iso Burn this ISO to a blank CD with this tool http://www.freeisoburner.com/. Insert this burned CD, plug in the created stick, restart the laptop and boot from CD. After a short time, the boot entries appear from the stick and you can boot the stick.

Just follow the instructions of the installer. He immediately sets up the WLAN and offers the possibility to delete the hard disk. I recommend a full installation. You should also choose third-party software. It also includes Firefox, Libreoffice, multimedia components and tools. After completing the installation and the first reboot, the Update Manager logs in the taskbar. One should install these updates.

How to install programs: Start Menu> System Tools> Software. This is like an appstore.

Also on Spotify you do not have to do without Linux. This can be installed as follows: Start Menu> System Tools> LXTerminal. Enter the following commands here or copy & paste and terminate each with Enter: https://www.spotify.com/de/download/linux/ Go to the Debian Package section. There are the commands for LXTerminal.

Spotify can be found in the Start Menu> Entertainment Media> Spotify.

The Firefox version in the package sources is outdated. If you always want to have the latest version automatically, enter the following commands at LXTerminal:

sudo add-apt-repsitory ppa: ubuntu-mozilla-security / ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Also under Linux you can download on Youtube. Just install this Firefox addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/...-download/

If you still need the Flashplayer, you can install it like this: At LXTerminal enter:

sudo apt install flashplugin-installer

This installs a script that always automatically downloads and installs the latest Flashplayer from the Adobe page.
