DHL virus on smartphone?

My friend received a text message from a fraudster posing as DHL about the status of her parcel. Since she is still expecting a package from DHL, she ignorantly clicked on the link. Because of that I think she got the virus that has been going around lately on her cell phone.

She has reset her cell phone to the factory settings. That doesn't make the virus go away, does it? Is it enough with a new SIM card, or can you forget the entire cell phone? Virus programs (Avast and TrendMicro) did not detect anything. She also had credit on it. 6 euro were on it, she used 3.99 for data volume and now it is 1 cent.

The other thing is, she connected the phone to her laptop via USB before factory setting so that she had her videos and pictures safe. Is this now also infected?

But we're not sure if it has a virus.

An SMS does not automatically download a virus.

These are just phishing messages that want your data.

Ignore, delete SMS and be good.

Su

Did she download the file that appeared when you tapped the link? If so, did she still install the app?

Gu

Of course, "the virus" is gone, since the entire memory has been cleaned up and written to with a clean Android system.

In addition, the messages that are currently wandering around are aimed at phishing, ie "data theft" or misuse. It's not a virus. Even the app, which you should download in some cases, only has the task of accessing your data (by entering it there)

Something like that can't go over to a PC.

Su

Resetting to the factory settings should be sufficient in any case.

Bl

She has not entered her details anywhere. For some links you download the app straight away. She subsequently downloaded the DHL app from the Play Store.

To be on the safe side, if data has been tapped, change the passwords of payment services. But that would be worst case. However, as soon as you are unfamiliar with debits from e.g. Paypal or something similar, change passwords!

But since you haven't downloaded anything, nothing should happen, especially with a factory reset.

Bl

Is it enough if you simply change the number or the SIM card? Then you have a different phone number.

Bl

If you change your SIM card now, it will have a different number than it used to be. Is that enough, also with regard to the possible credit deductions, that no credit may be deducted.

He

Yes

Gu

Which credit deductions? Has she ever contacted the provider? It shouldn't be related to the SMS. As I said, they only want the data to sell to advertising partners, etc.
