Why doesn't the USB stick boot?

Before I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows, I had Windows Xubuntu on the laptop. I would like to continue doing that (only this time I wanted to use Ubuntu).

Now I have the problem that my USB stick does not boot. It is probably due to the BIOS settings, because that was possible before (same USB port).

The BIOS has apparently been reset to its default values.

Which values do I have to change?

I switched off Secure Boot.

Always on USB: On

Flip to boot: on

Boot mode: UEFI

USB boot: on

PXE boot to LAN: on (should I be able to turn it off, right?)

The USB stick is at the top of the boot order and I actually select it with F12 in the menu anyway.

There's no error message and it starts Windows anyway.

Take a photo of your bios. You can simply upload this to your question from your mobile phone afterwards.

Normally it is very clear in the BIOS. You just have to set the boot order correctly. Most of the time he still accesses the hard disk, so you have to select the USB stick.

But make sure that you can select the USB, i.e. The correct one with Windows, in the menu.

As I understand it, have you reinstalled Windows and now want to install Ubuntu with the stick?

Read here, could be helpful:

I have now switched off quick start, which takes me one step further, thank you very much. Unfortunately it still doesn't work.

De

Yes

De

Okay, I've done it now, thanks.

Yes, you can choose. When I take out the USB stick, you can no longer see the entry that I used to choose.

Ma

That looks good, the boat. The order should fit. It is very important that you save that now, normally this is Exit and save. If you don't do that, it will discard all settings. Are you sure you saved that? Normally it should start immediately from the stick, but only if you exit the menu properly, i.e. With the current one

De

Yes it was saved. If I open the BIOS again, it's still like this.

Ma

Then you don't do an Exit and save. So you seem to save the setting but the PC does not restart with this setting.

De

Many Thanks.

Ma

Let me know if it works!

De

It seems to be working. Ubuntu is about to be installed.

Ma

Very good! I'm glad. Do you know what it was finally about?

De

Apparently because I didn't select "exit saving changes" but "save changes" and "exit".

Ma

Very good, because I made the mistake three weeks ago πŸ˜ƒ The mistake is so banal that you can't find anything yourself

De

Yes xD Now I have a new error…: / It is installed, but I only get to the login screen. When I enter the password, I get back to the login screen. If I enter the wrong one, I get an error message that did not appear in the previous attempts.

If I start in recovery mode and simply press "resume" so that it boots normally, it works, although there's a message that you may only get to the login screen because the graphics drivers are not fully loaded in recovery mode and a standard start was necessary. But this is not the case, I can log in normally.

Ma

Why is there a password at all when you create Windows from scratch?!

So you have already come to these questions where he wants to activate Cortana And all the stuff and location and where these countless questions come from?

De

Windows is installed, yes I've been there.

Now I installed Linux as the second operating system and was done with the installation, but after a restart I was no longer able to log in.

Ma

Okay, unfortunately I'm out with Linux I don't know my way around at all and also not with computers where both operating systems are installed πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

De

Okay thanks anyway.
