Google, Facebook & Co - account registration? And also use of VPN?

I have to go back a little to explain my question.

Many of us have a PC or laptop and a smartphone. Many of us have a Google account, some of which are "compulsory".

My specific question and first of all "what am I doing wrong?": I signed up with Google yesterday via the smartphone - I immediately get an email on my mobile phone: "You signed up with a new device at Google - if it was you, everything OK, if not, your account is at risk. "

Same game today, just the other way around. I signed in to Google on my laptop. And, as expected, an email on the cell phone. Text as above.

And the same game over and over again when you change devices.

I find that extremely annoying, security or not. Google knows almost everything down to the individual's digital fingerprint. But you are obviously not able to add 1 + 1 together or to offer you in the settings that you can store the data for two different devices. Or have you overlooked that so far? Or are we just reassured by such reports with a kind of tire security?

Something similar when using a VPN, especially if the server reports a foreign IP address. Why do I have an extra username and password if I can't even use a VPN without annoying special queries or double registrations (applies to GMX.de and web.de, for example) or when I'm abroad on a business trip and use the hotel's network. Or is there a "trick" for this that I don't know yet?

Pa

Oh. VPN spies on you just like Google does.

The security questions are just for your safety, but you can just stay logged in, then that won't happen.

yes and no, there are enough people who can do without Google services.

Or are we just reassured by such reports with a kind of tire security?

Is just a security warning that is intended to deter "hackers" and therefore everyone receives (via push). Is the same as the naked scanner at the airport: it rarely hits, but safety comes first.

Or is there a "trick" for this that I don't know yet?

Yes: do without Google services.

I do that wherever I can - browser = firefox, search engine = metager, email account = eg. Protonmail.com, etc. Etc.

Why Protonmail, of all things, when you have nothing to hide from the authorities?

De

Protonmail → based in Switzerland, adhere to the GDPR, end-to-end encryption and, above all, do not bother you with constant advertising. Besides, this has nothing to do with hiding from any authorities. It's more about data protection. Everyone here is committed to it, but whoever believes it will be happy.
