Windows 10 hangs up?

Re
6

I recently equipped my somewhat older laptop with Windows 10, since Windows 7 was running there before but that no longer has support. But now I have the problem that Windows 10 hangs up when starting and I have to "emergency shutdown" the laptop, so I have to hold down the power button until it goes off.
But when I turn the laptop back on, Windows starts normally as it should, until I don't shut it down and then try to turn it on again. The installation is very fresh, so it won't be because of that.

The laptop is a Medion Akoya P6630 from 2011

Here are the technical data:

Windows 10 Pro

Intel Core i3 Cpu M390

Nvidia GeForce G 540M GPU

6 GB Ram

Does anyone know what could be the reason? And how can I fix that?

Do you shut down the notebook properly or just hibernate?

That can sometimes be a cause for concern, I've had several times, even if I still can't understand it to this day

Have you brought all drivers up to date? So also when it comes to the Intel chip and CPU

Please look in the device manager, whether there's still uninstalled there

Re

I selected this "fast start-up" in the power settings by default

I can update the chipset

Drivers are all installed according to the device manager

St

Turn that off
I had activated the function on my own and that only took two seconds or so, so it doesn't really matter much to me

Re

I've done it now, it works without any problems and is not much slower, thanks for the help

Here are a few tips:

Fast-Boot both under Windows and UEFI / BIOS off!

Windows:

Control panel → "Energy options" → "Select what should happen when you press the power button" on the left-hand side of the window → Click on the link "Some settings are currently not available" and confirm administratively if necessary → Uncheck "Enable quick start" and click " Click Save Changes "

BIOS / UEFI:

Usually in the "Boot" tab with the name Fast-Boot or, if the UEFI is set to German, either "Fast-Boot" or "Schnellstart".

No matter what it is called: switch off / deactivate!

Why is Fast Boot harmful?

With fast boot only part of the hardware / peripherals is usually initialized. And that is the part of the hardware / peripherals that the computer basically needs when it starts. This then happens via standard drivers from the BIOS / UEFI. The OS reloads the rest after it has started. Windows has stability problems every now and then ^^ That's why you should avoid Fast-Boot when you don't need it…

Now on the subject of drivers: the device manager says one thing, but I say something else. Namely that Windows 10 installs many drivers for devices by default. Nice & good, but here's the trick: Most of the time, these are either outdated drivers that are sometimes maintained via Windows updates OR they are "class drivers". Means that they only serve to enable the respective hardware component to be controlled at all, but the drivers are useless for much more. Therefore, after a fresh Windows installation or upgrade, you should still obtain and install your drivers manually from the respective manufacturer's website of the PC / notebook / hardware manufacturer.

OK, I'm glad if it works now

Same experience as me. Then leave it dutifully deactivated.
