I have an iMac 2014 - and a Windows laptop for work.
Now I would like to use my iMac as an external monitor. But which cable do I need? Gff. An additional adapter.
My laptop has a display port - I attached a picture to you.
I had already tried a cable with Thunderbolt on DP - but unfortunately that didn't work.
1000 thanks for your help. Best regards!
The display port is usually only an output, so you can't use it as a monitor
So the iMac should be the monitor - not the laptop.
With the IMac, too, the monitor port is an output and not an input
The connections to laptops (and I also include the Mac) are mostly just video outputs. You can't feed in a video signal there and use the screen as a display device.
I have never tried this but maybe this will help you:
The Thunderportport on the iMac is bi-directional (so it can be input as well as output), but as far as I know it also needs a Thunderportport and probably also a MacOS (X from 10.6.1)
But you can test whether you don't have to switch the source on the iMac Command (+ Fn) + F2
Um… No
Just give it a try, but don't be disappointed afterwards
You don't have to try it. The iMacs (here from 2014) has a bidirectional Thunderport.
