Scroll with the touchpad despite left click?

On my old laptop, I could, for example in Word, in the text by pressing the left button on the touchpad start marking and then scroll down on the right wheel of the touchpad without the mouse has moved with. I thought that was very convenient because I could then decide by scrolling how far to mark. It does not work on my new laptop. Now I always have to move the mouse down to continue scrolling downwards, which makes it always scroll too far or even skip quite a bit after page break.

Does anyone know how to change this? (Clicking and scrolling as usual with two fingers does not work)
