I love the Adobe Photoshop program, but unfortunately I have a new laptop and would have to rent the program every month.
But that's far too expensive for me for hobby painting.
Do you have a free alternative that you could use?
It's just private and I'm drawing on a graphics tablet.
Hope you have an idea.
I use GIMP for all kinds of image creation and editing.
It's free and available for Windows and Linux.
Can do almost everything that Photoshop can do, but it takes a little getting used to.
Tutorials are also in abundance.
Try it with paint.net
Gimp is free. The program is very good, but also takes a lot of getting used to. Gimp has many features that Photoshop has too.
The subscription is too expensive for home users. I had canceled that for a year and again and bought Photshop Elements. You only pay once for this. Elements 2021 costs around 70 euro. It doesn't have all the options of the subscription version, but it is very good.
If you want it to be free, try the Gimp. You are not taking any chances.
Krita or Autodesk Sketchbook, both free and very extensive.
"Can do almost everything that Photoshop can"
… This is probably a bit of an exaggeration.
Take Krita or, if it can be online, Photopea. The two look a bit reminiscent of Photoshop and are not as cramped in operation as GIMP is.
Inkskape might also be considered for drawing.
Ok, then I should put it more subjectively: "Can do everything I need for complete image processing."
Merging layers, creating alpha channels, cloning, dodging, creating drop shadows… It would be a long list. Longer than what Gimp can't do.
Could you make a JPEG that shows that it couldn't be done with Gimp?
