I bought a new laptop (Win10) and a new Word2016. I first saved my documents on an external drive and then transferred them to the new laptop. Now I notice that with my DOC files only hieroglyphics are displayed and I can't read anything. In addition, they are opened under WordPad and not under Word2016. Furthermore, I can't open many DOCX files. The following message appears:
This is a disaster for me because I have important documents on my laptop. I have protected these documents.
Does anyone know how to get my documents back properly?
Read error message: the error message is generated by WORDPAD. That means you try to open the WORD document with the program WORDPAD.
use word, then it should work too ;-)
Right mouse button on the document -> open with -> Word 2016 and then immediately set the hook, that Windows should remember this.
1.) Start Word and open file from there
2.) Right click on file - open with - select another app - maybe "always use this app" or something like that.
