Amazon experiences?

Would like to buy a 2nd-hand laptop from Amazon.

The laptop is advertised on YouTube, has a high rating, but some also write about shortcomings and errors. How secure is such a purchase really or do you have to reckon with quirks and errors on Amazon?
Not only a device that I got recommended and ranked among the top cheap devices, always had quirks or other problems. So from transport defects to wrong or outdated software or bios.
Would you buy such devices on Amazon?

What about Ebay? Some say good, but occasionally tell about delivery or transfer problems. You have no security on Ebay, it seems to me, except minimally with PayPal.
