I downloaded this Windows tool to install windows 10 on a laptop, then accidentally chose my external hard drive instead of the usb stick. The data on it were flattened now and I'm told that said hard drive only 31.9 GB, but it is a 2tb hard drive. Only I would like to know what exactly happened there and how to undo it.

What was on the external hard drive on it? If it's just a hard drive where backups are stored, that would not be bad. The hard disk can be reformatted and the backups could be created again.
Hard drive is now NTFS again and everything is ok. On the hard disk itself only games were installed and a few backups and photos etc. Unfortunately, my keepass, which is a bit annoying but that the data is gone is not tragic.
What would be interesting, if you can only restore the keepass container. Do you happen to know if that works?
