Laptop screen shows black?

My laptop screen is not on when booting up. No sounds either.

when i close the screen it does not go into sleep mode.

nothing happens at all. Do you know why?

Maybe the battery is empty? If the screen stays black when the power adapter is plugged in and doesn't work, then it is likely defective
