Should I buy a new laptop for Linux Ubuntu or access it via WSL?

Would you buy a new laptop to run Ubuntu (without operating system) or simply install it in parallel via WSL or DualBoot?
I need this for my studies ("computer architecture" in computer science)

Have a Raspberry Pi. Apparently that shouldn't be enough…

Lo

Why not option three: install it in a VM, optionally with VMware Player or Virtualbox?

There's at least one Ubuntu version that runs on the Raspi.

To start with, you can use a hard drive, install Ubuntu and boot with the Raspi.
I wouldn't use WSL.

I have had good experiences with post-installation.

In the long run I would use a cheap laptop and the Raspi for backup and other purposes.

What do you want to study?
Something about computer science?
You can do something with the Raspberry. In the course of study, however, the graphics hardly play a role, because you won't have to describe the beautiful colorful pictures (GUI) like with Windows and learn button functions.

Basic knowledge is required. Since Ubuntu is not the best choice for professional applications, a "real Linux" should be better.

I don't understand WSL. Do you want to run Linux applications under Windows on the PI?
