My grandpa's laptop gives the spirit that's pretty old. Now I wanted to buy him a new one. The maximum is 400 euro should cost. The only thing he does with it is to write emails and surf the internet. Do you have suggestions?

In this case, a simple office device is sufficient. I would opt for a device with a processor Intel Core i3 or something equivalent of AMD. Then it's best to add an SSD, as it provides a decent speed boost compared to a HDD.

For example, for around 345 euro, there's the following Lenovo device: https://www.klarsicht-it.de/pc-server/computersysteme/notebooks/business/387959/lenovo-v130-15ikb-81hn-core-i3-7020u/2.3-ghz-kein-betriebssystem-8-gb-ram-256-gb-ssd-39.6-cm-15.6-1920-x-1080-full-hd

It is a 15.6-inch device with an anti-reflection Full HD display. An Intel Core i3-7020U, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD are installed. However, it should be mentioned that there's no operating system. Windows 10 could get you for about 10 - 15 euro.

If none of you are able to install Windows yourself, I can recommend you a device with an already existing operating system, which is a bit more expensive.

For example, for 400 euro, there's the following device from HP: https://www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=1CA2-018

This is a 15.6-inch device with a matte Full HD display. Again, as in the above device, an Intel Core i3-7020U, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD are installed. However, Windows 10 is already preinstalled here. There's also a fairly long battery life of up to 12 hours, but that may be insignificant in your case.

Does it have to be a laptop? My mother now only has one tablet for surfing and emails after her PC has given up the ghost. There's even the possibility to close a keyboard.
