Suitable laptop for architecture studies (cad-capable)?

For my studies I'm looking for a PC that can play the common CAD applications in architecture without any problems.

Found it here, but didn't know much about it. So you're asking now.

How is it here

Processor might work, but I'm not sure how good it is with graphics card.

Ar

What are you doing?

Sw

So if you don't want to take this laptop anywhere, you'd better take a desktop PC. Because this cools the processor better and the hardware parts are much easier to replace than with a laptop.

Sa

I have a microsoft tablet there it works but the loading time when opening a drawing in Inventor 2020 is incredibly long… The tablet already has an I7 with a GTX 1050 …

So it works but is really tedious… I can imagine it just like with this laptop.

Lenovo thinkpads are still the best for cad applications, but they are absolutely overpriced

Ar

Well, I'd rather be portable

Sw

OK. You also have to consider that especially strong laptops do not have such a good battery life. Because if you're lucky, you might get 5 hours of battery life with CAD, with a little bit of bad luck 2 to 3 hours of battery life.

Ar

What exactly should I look for in these lenovo things. Do you have an example?

Sa

My father owns this for 3D CAD (solidworks 2018), there you have much less loading times and if you are not really patient it is perfect but it is absolutely overpriced!

But I would rather recommend a desktop PC, because they are much cheaper with the same configuration!

Va

For CAD you need a Ryzen 7 and a relatively large amount of RAM. I think there are times from 1000 euro. But would actually not get me a laptop because the performance is severely limited. A desktop pc is much better and usually cheaper.

Ar

Do you have an example of a desktop PC?

Ar

What do you think of that

Ar

Do you just have a desktop pc ready?

Va

If you want a config or a link to a ready pc then your budget is still important to know.

Sa

It will also be balanced and the applications like autodesk or solidworks will only run on it then you need a lot of patience

Ar

Should theoretically be under 1k, finished PC sounds good. Just want to convince me that standpcs are better and cheaper

Va

The e.g. https://hardwarerat.de/...eiger?c=87

A little tip: If you build it yourself, you can choose even better parts and save 50-100 euro.

Ar

Would you like to put one together? 😊

Va

I will do it and then post the link tomorrow. Then you get the best CAD setup for 1000 euro.

Ar

Also priced below dr

Ar

And if it fits the laptop alternative, to compare.

Ar

What impression does this make for you?

Va

The processor and the GPU are too old. And that is clearly too expensive.

Ar

And the?

ASUS Ultra Ryzen7 SSD (17.3 inch FullHD) Notebook (AMD 8-Thread Ryzen7 3700U with 4 GHz, 20GB DDR4, 1000 GB SSD M2, 8GB 10-Core Radeon RX 10 Graphics, HDMI, Windows 10, MS Office) # 6458 https://www.amazon.de/...087JWFJXQ/

Va

Very bad. Has no graphics card but only an internal graphics chip which is very slow and the RAM configuration is the horror. Very dubious offer btw. The dealer has no idea about PCs (lots of wrong information). General tip: Do not buy hardware from Amazon. Search notebooks at Notebooksbilliger. Hardware otherwise from Mindfactory, Alternate etc. So buy from specialist retailers.

Ar

Thanks for that 😂

what about that

Va

Also no graphics card and RAM only in single channel. If you don't know anything about it, it's like a needle in a haystack. I'll write you the best 1000 euro setup tomorrow and then alternatives. But you will see. If you want the power of a 1000 euro PC you need a 1500 euro + laptop.

Ar

Well, I would like to compare a 1000 euro laptop with a 1000 euro desktop.

ni

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the device you suggested, but I also work with CAD and have a Microsoft Surface Pro 7. It's not cheap, but I'm very happy with it. Definitely worth the money.
