Laptop only shows flashing dash?

I got a laptop for free

when I want to put the ssd from my laptop in there and start it, there's only a blinking line at the top left

How can I fix that

Check what's going on in the BIOS or reinstall Windows.

Check in the BIOS or UEFI whether the LW is recognized. Otherwise use empty hard disk and install new OS.
