Emergency generator purchase decision?

I would like to buy an emergency generator for my home (apartment with balcony). I did a little research and read that there are inverters and not inverters. The inverters are probably better suited for sensitive devices such as cell phones.

I would like to connect the following:

Refrigerator (according to Samsung approx. 2400W)
a couple of LED lights
Possibly a small radio
Small fan heater (800W)
Cell phone / laptop to charge.

But it doesn't have to be all connected at the same time, according to Samsung, the refrigerator will keep cold for around 20 hours without electricity.

Now the question is whether it has to be an inverter or whether a normal generator is sufficient? Do you have any purchase recommendations?

Wouldn't it be possible to hang a UPS behind a normal unit in order to be able to charge the laptop / mobile phone?

My

Take an inverter and the refrigerator will probably have a nominal power of 240W.

I would prefer a 1200VA device.

Heating with electricity is an absolutely stupid idea, better use a gas lantern, it has enough waste heat.

That is the refrigerator, there's power consumption 2000-2400W

My

Where is that I only found power consumption / a and with 252kWh that is less than 1kWh per day, so the compressor and 2000W would run less than 1h / d.

An inverter can be used for all common devices. I have a 4-stroke Zipper with 900 watts of continuous load. Only cost 110 euro

Ok, but don't devices like refrigerators have a very high starting current?

Sa

Fridge certainly not.

My

I did not find it and that is more of a mistake than reality, that would be a giant compressor!

That's what I thought too.

An

Bla Bla Bla Inverter! Again!

Most devices that are supposed to be sooo demanding have their own switching power supply (see laptop power supply even with automatic voltage type detection!)

Regardless of whether it is an inverter or not: Fridges, laptops, televisions, circular saws, lamps and computers will run problem-free on almost every generator.

All modern power generators have an inverter. But it's not a big deal if a good device doesn't have that.

To the power generator itself:

For the balcony it has to be a whisper-quiet branded device. Honda has good products here (but very expensive!)

Inexpensive devices (around 100 euro, two-stroke): are only good for daily use on the construction site. After 2 weeks of downtime, you often need a lot of time to get a part like this back on. Something is constantly dripping out and smells. Then there are the corrosive exhaust gases and the higher fuel consumption.

Old devices:

There are more than enough in the classifieds portals. Mostly junk junk at crazy prices. Old devices are usually extremely loud!

So: make comparisons and buy the best you can afford.

Think about whether a "Power Oak" might be enough for your needs (mobile phone, TV…)
