Game Deponia for PC hangs during installation?

My friend bought me the game Deponia - The Complete Journey for my laptop. I also believe that my computer meets the requirements. However, if I want to install the game, it always hangs in the same place during the installation. Does anyone have an idea what I can do there? I have Windows 7 …

Why do not you just activate the key on Steam (do you have to know that either way) and just download it from there?

Em

So I have a game CD. Do not I have to buy this at Steam and pay again?

pa

No. You simply create an account on Steam, go to Activate Game, enter the code and then the game will stay in your library forever. Say you can always install it again and again, you should delete it.

Em

Ah, great.

Ok, I have now created an account on Steam. I was looking for the game, but I can't enter any code on the page, just add the game to the cart. There I can only buy it again, but do not enter any code. I do not see where else I can activate the game?

Did you download Steam on my PC? In the Steam window, the bottom of the game is quite big.

Em

Oh, no. I did not know that I still have to install it correctly. Sorry. Then I'll do that.

Em

Hmm.leider is nowhere to be found in the packaging as a product code…

What does the installation indicate, what kind of mistake happened? Does it simply crash? Is an error message coming?
If you can do it more accurately, I can help you.

If there's no message, you should look under Control Panel → Administrative Tools -Computer Management → Event Viewer for the event that causes the game to crash at the specified time.

So first open the windows in which you should specify the language and the destination directory. That works too. Then the installation window with the bar will open, showing you how far the installation has been completed. And there the bar also climbs a little bit and then it does not go on from the same place. So the top is that the game is installed, but even after waiting forever, the bar does not grow further. If I then abort the installation via the Task Manager, the message comes that the program stops responding. I'll try that with the event viewer.

I've now found the following: "Setup.exe, version 0.0.0.0 can no longer run on Windows and has been shut down. Please check the problem history in the Control Center Control Panel for more information about the problem."
In the maintenance center, but I find nowhere something.

Can it be that you are not an administrator on your computer and only use a limited account on your computer?

Just try the following steps:

Right-click on Setup.exe and select "Run as administrator". Maybe the installer wants to enter any entries in the system registry and can't do so because there are no admin rights.

Second option:
Try to copy the DVD with the game into a folder. Start Setup.exe from there.

Because some DVDs have an extra copy protection, which can affect the readability of installations. If you have the data stored locally on your folder, the copy protection does not matter anymore.

I still have a third option that will definitely work, however, that is also more complex and requires the installation of an image program.

So the second way took a long time, but actually led to success. The installation worked and the game seems to work!

I have a similar problem, maybe you can help me.

I bought Deponia on Steam, the download was not a problem, but at the "first installation" is nothing.

I've already completely uninstalled Deponia & downloaded it again, the same with Steam. I'm also Admin of the PC.

I would really appreciate your answer.

OK. Please go to Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Computer Management → Event Viewer and see what is there if the installation does not start.

If you start the installation and it does not work, you can also press Ctrl Alt and Del. Then you open the Task Manager and look under "Processes" to see if there's something about the installation.

Do you happen to have an antivirus program running in the background? This sometimes blocks certain downloads.
