Does it make more sense to get a projector (and possibly a screen) when you are not watching TV at all, but only films and series on any streaming site? You can connect the projector to your laptop or cell phone. After all, there are also projectors with a CD drive. Admittedly, I don't really know my way around, but I never want to buy a TV because they seem completely pointless to me.
I would still be interested in the disadvantages of not having a TV? And why would you prefer a television instead of a projector?
If I have moved and there's possibly enough space, I might get a projector.
But for now, the television is enough for me.
I also suspect that the quality of the projector is worse than that of the television because the image is only projected onto the (screen) wall.
I have 2 projectors in the basement and only use my monitor…
Projectors are loud and you need dark rooms if you buy cheap models…
Even the medium-sized models (around 1000 euro) still need relatively dark rooms…
And the power consumption is also much higher than that of a monitor…
I also suspect that the quality of the projector is worse than that of the television
Yes, that could be true. But I don't think the quality is so bad and not bad if it weren't as good as on a television.
A projector can be good, but then it also costs accordingly - usually 5 digits…
Hmh everyone has their preferences. Image quality is very important to me, so I probably wouldn't get one after all. ^^
Yes, most projectors are really loud and true, you should always darken the room.
I didn't know that the electricity consumption was higher. I'd rather think the other way around now. I mean, you wouldn't just let the projector run, like sometimes with a television. And you (I) don't watch a film every day (maybe).
I haven't owned a TV for over 10 years and I don't miss anything.
I'm only interested in feature films anyway, and they look much better on the big screen than on the TV screens, even if they were "big".
The sound from TV sets is also anything but satisfactory for me.
For years I have only been watching my films via video projection, in combination with a Dolby Digital / DTS audio system.
A DVD / Blu-ray player and a LaserDisc player serve as the player.
However, if you want to let your advertising uhh series, Hartz4-TV, news, football fuss and feature film extracts from morning to night, you are better served with a TV set.
:)
I definitely don't want a TV.
What projector do you have? If I may ask.
I didn't do both, but I discussed it with someone a while ago.
Projector:
- Loud
- hot (stupid when the lamp burns out)
- No sharp picture
- Bad with additional light
- Needs more space because of the distance to the screen
- Higher power consumption (you can already tell from the heat)
+ Very large picture
+ Relatively mobile
TV:
+ Quiet
+ Sharp picture
+ Relatively cool and long-lasting
+ Not so bad with additional light sources
+ Space-saving
- Smaller picture
- Not very mobile
The prices are likely to be similar, but of course it always depends on the models.
I would only buy a projector if I wanted to entertain a larger group of people, which can be a problem with a television.
For smaller groups (which fits on a sofa) and everything else: TV.
For my part, I do everything on the PC, 27 "monitors and a comfortable chair are enough to watch the film alone.
Even an expensive projector will not be able to match the quality of a good TV, in terms of quality I see the price-performance win for TV very clearly.
But compared to the times when you use the monitor, the projector is more expensive to use - so I mean a clever projector, not a pocket device…
Do you have a link
There are already 4k laser beamers that outperform the monitor in terms of brightness and the image is huge…
The picture will always be worse than on the TV, unless you limit the picture to the same size from the television, but then you won nothing.
And even then I guess the image is still worse, it's just a projection onto a surface.
I think it could only bother me if the projector is too loud. If it gets hot quickly, then it is definitely not a good projector. I can imagine that good projectors don't get loud and still project well, even when it's not that dark. I was going to hang up my projector. The space is not bad if it hangs on the ceiling. What do you think about it?
I have had a projector for almost a year now and I'm extremely satisfied with it. I also only watch films and series practically - via BluRay, DVD or streaming - I play audio through the stereo system.
Very cool. What projector do you have?
It's good, we have it 3 times in the company…

But it's only used. But cheaper…
Wow… The price is just… Huge.
Arrives on the screen and on the projector…
I would like to see 14 x 3 meters on monitors…
I know…
I have a used eiki xt3 here… It used to cost so much.
Well, the projector is always hot, after all, it has to produce a very bright light so that the image can still be seen at a distance. That's why you shouldn't look directly into the light.
My father e.g. Use a professional projector to throw pictures onto a canvas and then paint them. These lamps cost well over 100 euro (only the lamp) and things get extremely hot.
A good projector can only counteract this by having good cooling, but good cooling without direct contact (like in a PC) only works with fans. And then the climate wall summer with cozy 40 + ° C…
So there are definitely projectors that are not quite as loud, maybe even bearable, but none of them will be quiet or even silent.
And as I wrote in another comment:
The picture will inevitably get worse as it is bigger. The same number of pixels on a larger area means poorer quality.
And subject space:
Yes, if it hangs on the ceiling, space is not the problem, but it's not that big. I mean with space that you need a certain distance from the canvas to reach the desired size.
I also played with the thought and my decision:
Definitely a television, then a very large television.
At least if I should buy one, have a look.
If he has lamps, he gets hot because the waste heat has to go somewhere…
It doesn't matter on the ceiling, but in summer, a disadvantage in hot temperatures, because then it doesn't even turn on for self-protection…
No, it doesn't depend on the screen or projector.
The same number of pixels (4k) on a larger area means poorer image.
It doesn't matter what projector or screen you have.
Sure, if you sit farther away, you won't notice that much, but what did you win then? Sit closer and make the picture smaller, but it looks just as big to you.
I really wouldn't have thought.
I don't care, it warms up the room anyway. It is an expensive heating system in winter, but rather unattractive in summer - if it starts at all.
And then it also has to be cooled, which naturally makes it loud.
BenQ TH530 Full HD
Often people mean… Image quality and so on…
Sure, the resolution gets worse the further you open the picture, but honestly 4k screens are completely covered… If I think of some ancient DVDs from my shelf, then no TV or screen can do anything with it. But for that I have almost 3m screen diagonal.
Did you look at the UVP? You can buy several small cars or an apartment from it.
I see! Sorry, I misunderstood that. Vote The projector should not be standing (or hanging) in a small room. But our projector in the class is also not far from the wall. Hmm…
I actually meant that the projector got hot and not the light, i.e. The lamp. Or is the whole projector getting hot?
How should complications develop when it gets hot in summer?
The price is totally okay! Cool. And is there anything you don't like about the projector? Is it maybe too loud?
Yes. Really a lot.
The lamp gets hot and that is the problem, because if it gets too hot it will burn out. The lamp then naturally heats up the rest and it also gets hot, but the lamp remains the main problem.
And in summer you have a higher outside temperature, but that's exactly what the projector uses to cool the lamp. Higher outside temperatures mean poorer cooling performance.
Thanks for the information.
In terms of price, you should still include a screen and a stereo system (or something similar). If you need everything, you're on the price of a good TV.
The response takes some getting used to… Screen on and you have a picture… Projector and the lamp has to heat up first… If you have a lot of light in the room, the black is only gray, so you should be able to darken it properly.
The fan can be heard clearly, but I only notice that in a few films / scenes.
Really cool, thanks!
Epson EH-TW6100
I know that, but they are really good projectors…
I may get one for free 😁
You just have to have connections in this world.
