External DVD burner = DVD player?

My mom would like to buy a new laptop, but it doesn't have a drive. We would therefore like to buy an external drive because it is very attached to their DVDs. But I only see "external DVD burner". Are they automatically DVD players or is there a difference?

DVD burners can also play DVDs.

Ma

Of course, every burner is also able to read DVDs

A DVD burner is actually, as far as I know, a DVD player.

It's just called DVD ** Burner **, because it can also rewrite DVD.

ie files on the DVD / CD. In order to burn / write / copy / export something on a DVD, the DVD / CD must also be able to be recognized or read.

External DVD burners can also be used as normal DVD / CD drives and are displayed as drives shortly after connection via USB. The drivers install themselves.

Prices are around 20 euro upwards.

You can't only burn it but also play it. All you have to do is install the VLC media player and the libdvdcss library under Windows:

VLC: https://www.vlc.de/

libdvdcss: https://github.com/...4.2/64-bit Simply download this DLL and then copy it to the folder c: \ windows.

Then DVDs can be played.
