Hi, we have a Fritzbox 7490, but the reception is not enough in every room (on the same floor). Therefore I would like to grow now a WLAN amplifier. What exactly is the difference between the two above? Which is more recommendable? In the area that the repeater is soon to cover, YouTube, WhatsApp, normal internet surfing, and Netflix should be possible. The latter both on the smart TV (rest on smartphone and laptop).
The repeater 1750E is faster. It can reach the full WLAN ac speed of 1300 Mbit / s in the 5Ghz band. The 1160 only manages 866Mbps. In the 2.4Ghz band, the 1750E can reach the full Wi-Fi speed of 450Mbit / s. The 1160 only manages 300 Mbps. If you do not copy large files from computer to computer in the network, but use the network only for surfing the Internet, you probably will not notice these differences, since the Internet connection will usually be much slower. It should also be noted that these values are optimal. The actual value can be as fast as half the size or less. Then the faster repeater may be useful anyway.
Another difference is that the 1750E unlike the 1160 has an Ethernet (LAN) port. You can also use it to connect a device that has no Wi-Fi (for example, printer, Raspberry Pi, TV, smart home device, IP phone…) to the WLAN.
Both devices support AVM mesh and are clearly superior to cheaper devices thanks to crossband repeating (without crossband repeating, the speed is halved by a repeater). If the LAN connection is not needed, it should be for most households no matter which one takes and you can take good conscience the cheaper. But if you use the network frequently to copy files back and forth (eg from computer to computer or between computer and NAS), you have a very fast Internet connection, you need the Ethernet connection or if you assume that you will soon significantly faster Internet you should get the 1750E. He is the better device (he is faster and he has an extra LAN connection).
Thank you so much! Really great that you took so much time and explained that really well.
If I understood correctly, the two repeaters have no difference in range, but only in the speed?
So is the cheaper version synonymous for Netflix and YouTube on the smart TV? Or is it noticeably slower then the more expensive version?
Since we'll probably get soon fiber optic network, the repeater is anyway not suitable for it or?
Both are sufficient for Netflix and YouTube (YouTube 4k sometimes needs a lot of bandwidth - I'm not sure). However, the Internet connection is probably slower than the repeater (the slow repeater has up to 300Mbit / s at 2.4Ghz and up to 866Mbit / s at the 5GHz band). Even though in the end, due to walls, etc. Only half arrive, the WLAN is faster than most Internet connections. If you get fiber optics soon, the question is how fast the connection will be. For Gbit fiber (1000Mbit) and 500Mbit fiber (or cable) you should take the 1750E. At 200Mbit fiber theoretically enough of the 1160th I would think about it anyway but to take the 1750E, since the transmission speed in the WLAN, of course, not reached the theoretical maximum and thus some buffer could be recommended. At 100Mbit and below enough of the 1160th I also no range differences are known.
Edit: Oh, I really wanted to comment and not answer again
Many Thanks! That really helped me a lot!
