Connection problems WLAN: connect laptop to router without amplifier?

Recently i have a problem.

For a few days now I have a new router from Telekom (Smart 3), so far I have always used an amplifier (WLAN repeater) from the FritzBox (450E).

Now my problem is that I can now only connect to the WLAN when the repeater is plugged in. If I unplug the repeater, my laptop can't connect to the network. It can't be because of the distance (I've already sat right next to the router). When the repeater is plugged in, I can connect to the network without any further problems. I updated all of my drivers on my laptop. With other devices e.g. My TV, PS4, cell phone everything works. It's just not my laptop.

Summarized:

1) When the repeater is plugged in, the connection between the network and laptop can be established

2) If the repeater is unplugged, no connection can be established between the network and the laptop

3) Distance (weak signal) is not a cause

4) Driver updated

5) Other devices have network access with and without repeaters

Sounds weird. Does your repeater and your telecom router use the same WLAN (same SSID)?

Windows creates a so-called WLAN profile for each WLAN network.

Windows stores all necessary settings (encryption, IP configuration, DNS, gateway and much more) for the respective WLAN in this profile.

If these settings are turbulent or have changed in the meantime (changed due to encryption or frequency band, router update, driver update, …) it may be wrong.

My proposition:

Delete the profile for your Wi-Fi in Windows and connect to the Wi-Fi freshly (you need the Wi-Fi key, because you know that).

So: open the properties of your Wi-Fi network and press the "do not save" button. Then freshly connect to your Wi-Fi (remember, Wi-Fi key is required, hopefully you will have one). Very important! You absolutely have to press the "do not save" button in Windows 10 so that Windows really deletes the WLAN profile completely!

PS:

If it still twitches, uses different SSIDs for routers and repeaters, it is no longer a mesh system anyway, if the devices come from different manufacturers (Telekom + AVM).

Thanks for the answer!

I tried it but it didn't work.

After I wanted to connect it again there was only a long wait when connecting, then the message "No connection to this network possible".

Can it also be a problem with the laptop? (HP, Windows 10)

Hy

Yes - so this problem only occurs with my laptop…

not with other devices (TV, cell phone, tablet, other laptop)

* Note if my laptop is right next to the router at the range, the problem can't be.

I then have internet access with a power cord

Here are some more tips:

Some WLAN receivers (produced for the US market) can't receive WLAN channels 12 and 13 (12 and 13 are permitted in Europe, not permitted in the USA). Maybe your laptop has this US restriction? Then simply set the fixed channel (1, 6 or 11) on the configuration page of the router for 2.4 GHz.

MAC filter in the router accidentally activated? If so, briefly switch off the MAC filter in the router, … Connect the laptop… Switch the MAC filter back on.

Here are some good recommendations for your mistake

"Can't connect to this network"

Otherwise, this guide from Microsoft helps quite well:

Hello kick1893, I know how to get your home network up and running without having to constantly change something or restart.

You already have a Speedport Smart 3, which is the perfect prerequisite for our https://www.telekom.de/...an-paket-s (there's also a duo), I promise you that you will not have to bother with it afterwards. I had the same challenge and solved it with these devices.

And please, don't see that as "He just wants to sell something". I really want to help you! Please take a look at it, the good thing is: you also have 90 days right of return!

If you want, we can both also make phone calls. Just send me your data via our https://www.telekom.de/...hilft-team.

Unfortunately everything did not work… I think my laptop is just too old ☺ If I have an internet connection via the amplifier, then it is very, very slow…

Maybe I'll try to completely reset my laptop during the days.

Have you ever switched off Bluetooth on your laptop? Because Bluetooth and WLAN 2.4 GHz interfere with each other.
