I have an Acer laptop on which I would like to install Linux (Lubuntu) completely and by myself. Didn't think it was that complicated, but it doesn't work.
After the installation I always get the message "No bootable device".
This error message is apparently very well known and the problem is that UEFI has not been selected as "partition" in the settings.
My problem is I have completely erased my hard drive, installed Linux and if I want to set it this way, the option is not available just as there's no UEFI in the boot option.
How can I start Linux without UEFI because it is already installed and I don't want Windows as a 2 partition.
A partition can't be UEFI. UEFI is the "new BIOS" i.e. The system that boots before the operating system. Secure Boot is probably already turned off, which then only leaves in my head that there's no efi partition. The UEFI looks there to see whether something is available from this device (hard drive / SSD) to boot.
You will then probably not get around reinstalling. Actually, the Lubuntu should create by itself during the installation. You can check with a live medium whether this partition is available.
