Make Asus Notebook faster?

Je

10

I have had a gaming notebook for about 4 years, which initially ran without problems. Now, however, it is full of some files and, as is the case over the years, things are slowing down. I don't have any money to buy a new one at the moment and therefore the question arises: Can I make things faster again by sorting out certain files? Or does someone know a few very specific tips and tricks?

It's best to reset the system from scratch. Windows 10 is doing very well, although you can have all of your data preserved.

Settings "via the start menu or the key combination Win-I, and go to" Update and Security → Recovery ". Under" Reset this PC "click on" Let's go ".

Unfortunately, you have to reinstall some programs.

But I just did it and my Asus notebook is running like new.

It takes about an hour to get everything back, but I'm sitting here at home anyway because of Corona. You have time to do everything like that

If the hard disk is full to the brim, a computer becomes slow. Thumb rule: 5% should always be empty with HDDs. With more data, you need a larger disk. With SSD, there should be more freedom.

HDDs also become slower when they are highly fragmented. Then: start defragmentation.

Let the hard disk cleanup run - I guess that you are using Windows: Right click on the system hard disk, then click on "Cleanup", then "Cleanup system files" and select everything except "Trash can" and "File history of the users". How much space does this clear? Then defragment again.

Do you still have an HDD? Then replace it with an SSD. This makes the computer feel 5 times faster.

All other automagic cleanup programs are nonsense. The CCleaner etc. Does not help measurably, so it is a waste of time.

With win 10 you have to clean up the option in the drive properties.

it will get a lot of garbage away

But photos, videos, etc. Are preserved?

Ho

Yes. But I would still save everything on an external data medium beforehand

It is best to save the photos and videos on an external data medium, then you are on the safe side.

Ho

Write that again

Sorry, the page was not updated and I haven't seen your answer yet.

It doesn't hurt to add more RAM. Most of the time there's still one slot available in the notebook
