I would like to sell my notebook soon. However, I still have a licensed version of Windows running on it. What would you recommend? Leave it or install freedos? Are there any other alternatives?

Be sure to format your hard drive for security and reinstall Windows.

My

New hard drive in, and Windows on it.

My

Formatting is unfortunately not enough.

If it was not a very high quality version of Windows (Professional or Enterprise) in stand-alone purchase on your part, but just a pre-installed home or starter, I would give it up for sale. This increases the demand and attractiveness for potential buyers.

If you have created a Windows recovery disc, you should first format the entire hard drive, and then first by means of a bootable Linux distribution + delete & overwrite tools in several passages destroy your own data not recoverable on this drive.

Then you play the Windows recovery for the factory state again and bring the drivers back to the latest state.
