I recently found an old laptop and now I don't know which operating system to install.

Which operating system should I use Which operating system should I use - 1

32bit

It would be best if it is an operating system that consumes few resources so that you can run at least a small local MySQL database. Which would be nice if you can install Java + Eclipse or IntelJ.

Mi

A Linux distro with Xfce should run fine with it.

cl

I would install Windows 10 32 bit

in

If nothing works anymore take tiny core linux otherwise pop os or manjaro

Sh

On the Acer support site there are only drivers for XP, Vista and 7:

https://www.acer.com/...t/1001?b=1

So take Windows7.

Va

Ne linux distro would work fine there. I can't recommend Windows for the hardware.

am

Yes, but which Linux distro would you recommend?

Na

On the net with Windows7? Not without risk…

Mo

With the hardware? Rather not

am

Would Linux Mint Xfce do reasonably well?

am

Yep, no Windows because Win 10 will not run there

Sh

That's his choice.

am

Win 10 you can forget about it xD

Na

Just give it a try… No food. I would recommend Linux, Ubuntu, Mint, … I would rather.

am

Oops accidentally clicked on helpful…

Is it possible to download an old version from Ubuntu? You can only find the latest version on the official site and unfortunately it is only available for 64bit

Sh

64bit only?

Then take it. The Core2Duo can do 64bit.

How can it be 64 bit? Thought it would be 32bit, of course that changes a lot. Then I'll try Ubuntu.

am

Ok thanks but I just found out that I can also use 64 bit

Sh

Processors that can only do 32bit have not been around since 2001.

The last ones were the Pentium4 and the Athlon XP.

Everything that came after that is 64bit capable.

am

Ok sry I know myself so well then from xD I think I confused it with that because Windows Vista was 32 bit on it

Ce

Classic Ubuntu, otherwise I personally like Mint and Fedora. But ultimately you have to decide for yourself

Ba

I know 😂😂

am

Yep I'll try Ubuntu and Mint

Na

Check out what's here.

My recommendation: MX Linux 32-bit

Sh

Thank you, CatsEye.

I can use it right now.

(the old Ubuntus)

What is the risk? All our company computers still run with Win7. Stable and without problems.
