Moin moin I still have an old laptop around, but it's really lame
(Intel Atom 2GB Ram, Win7 Starter)
Can I make it faster somehow?
Apart from the working memory, hard disk and, in some models, also removable drives for cd / dvd, nothing can be changed in the hardware of laptops.
at least as a layperson. Specialists could use precision engineering knowledge (electronics and soldering) to exchange the permanently installed chips. But the effort is hardly worth it.
If possible, upgrade the working memory to at least 4GB RAM and replace the mechanical hard disk (HDD) with a fast SSD. Then either switch to Windows 10 or install a derivative from the Linux world.
Upgrading to Windows 10 is still free and there shouldn't be any problems with drivers. Alternatively, you can also install a free Linux derivative - e.g. Debian or Mint.
If you would tell us the manufacturer and the model, maybe we can tell you if other things are possible. It depends very much on the respective model and its construction whether and what you can upgrade.
