I'm looking for reasonable office software for my new laptop. A friend advised me to use OpenOffice or LibreOffice free of charge. I'm always a bit skeptical about free software packages.
My question:
Is OpenOffice or Libre Office a reasonable alternative to Microsoft Office?
If so, which is better - Open or LibreOffice?
Well, it can do everything Word can do, but it is much more unpleasant to use.
Absolutely. I have used OpenOffice for years (already under Windows). Unfortunately, this is no longer maintained as LibreOffice, which is why I have now switched to LibreOffice.
Therefore I would recommend LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice.
Who wrote anything about school? How do you get such answers?
Then work. Every normal company has an office
Yes. And you have no idea if you are bubbling something from "convert to word".
I use LibreOffice here in my work, while the rest of the office works with Microsoft Office. And do you know who cares? Not even one.
Because I'm able to set "File → Save As… → Microsoft Office file type" once per document so that the Microsoft dyslexics can read my documents…
In principle, both are actually a good alternative. However, OpenOffice will not be developed further. Therefore prefer LibreOffice. I've been using it for years and I'm very happy. It can do practically anything that MS Office can do.
Now for the but: The alternatives have their own file format. Of course, MAN can use Word formats or save everything later so that Word can open it. But the formatting is usually lost.
If you work a lot with macros, with fonts, breaks, inserted images, the documents in Word are displayed differently. Some things slip.
If you have to open files on Word regularly or send them to Word users, you should work with Word. If you don't do that, you have a free choice.
For my part, I only write texts in which no relevant formatting occurs, and later I only send things via PDF. So I don't need MS Office.
Then use your super office
Thank you, I will do it.
Yes, the reference to school is not bad. Texts must now be written in the Corona period and then sent to school. I forgot to mention that.
No quarrel please.
In the meantime, even Microsoft has found it convenient to read Libre Office's OpenDocument format. You can open documents in MSOffice as normal, even if they have not been "converted". Problems sometimes arise only with very special formatting, especially when functions have been misused because the software is not properly mastered. I have been using LibreOffice privately and MSOffice for work for years.
Hi! I work with all three office packages, each one has its advantages. The programs give almost nothing to the basic scope of operation, then it is the actuality or the look and feel that is the argument of choice. The more complex but formatting, formulas and macros etc. Become, the more likely I would be at MicroSoft… The package is also available in the company area.
It should be considered whether the files created can be processed by several people and on several computers… It is generally advisable to have a software environment that is as homogeneous as possible.
If the current MicroSoft package is being discussed somewhere, you should consider Libre as an alternative, because that can save in the current MS format, OpenOffice can only save the previous format… And it is still being developed.
At Libre, I personally only have the problem that the loading time is sometimes very long and some functions are quite annoying and sometimes not solved intuitively, but that is certainly not an obstacle, it is free, up-to-date and has everything a sophisticated user needs.
Libre costs nothing, download it and test it. You can run all three applications in parallel without any problems, so you do not take any risks. I claim… Sometimes personal user experience and special requirements are left out… That LibreOffice can meet almost all private and sophisticated requirements for an office suite. Greeting
