Because of a disability (which one does not really look at externally, but only when one knows it), I have been awarded a disadvantage compensation at the university.
Therefore, my lecturer came to me recently before the lecture and said that I write the exam in his office under his supervision because of the disadvantage compensation, so I do not get too restive when the others leave the room → I was given a time allowance and the letter approved on the laptop.
Maybe the timing of the agreement was also a bit unfortunate, at least the Umsitzenden have noticed and then felt that they would be disadvantaged unlike me, without that they would have further questioned why this is so.
My family doctor and my clerk in the examination office both said to me that I could be sure that it would not be an advantage for me, that only an impairment should be compensated.
Why do many people think that one is over-favored, if one receives a disadvantage compensation?
You must not close your fellowships on others.
I think that they just have the extra time in mind and have not thought about it further. That was a thoughtless reflex.
If they knew the background, I would imagine that they judge differently. You have not chosen your disability and you obviously need the laptop and the extra time.
For outsiders usually only the given advantage is apparent. This makes you feel worse off.
They do not see that this bonus compensates for disadvantages or they do not know much more. You usually can't even know, especially if your restriction is not visible.
If a wheelchair user gets told that you can't get in here without a ramp and write in room XXX everyone understands that.
If you are told that you have 15 minutes more time than the others, then it is difficult to understand why, without any reason to be aware of this.
Try to deal with your limitations openly and clear up (you can do that without naming the actual condition).
They were just jealous. And in general, if you do not immediately look at a disability, you have to fight more, expect less help, etc. That's unfortunately true.
I have already been told: "I want your life!" Jaaahaaa, the lot of free time and shopping maybe, but the rest of illness and co? After a week then no one is on it anymore. I often do not.
People have already thought something, even non-obvious disabilities to compensate for disadvantages. Which is good. Do not let yourself be put off by people who do not think very far and stand up for your rights!
