Laptop is simply more diverse and offers you the opportunity to play even more demanding games than the stuff from the Android store.
The office packages should also be significantly better. But I didn't test the tablet office versions myself.
I would choose laptop! You just have a lot more options and you can gamble pretty well (if it is accordingly good).
If you also want to use it for school work, a tablet only makes sense in my opinion if it runs Windows, such as on the Microsoft Surface. But, at the price, you get a much better laptop.
From my point of view, tablets are more of a gimmick, at most an addition to a "real" computer. There are now applications where tablets can be used sensibly, but this is not yet 100% mature.
Long story short: I personally would prefer a laptop. That may change in a few years.
