I have a triple boot from Ubuntu, PhoenixOS and Windows 10 running on a laptop with a 500Gb HDD. Now I want to switch to an SSD for performance reasons. How can I now transfer all files so that I take over my 3 operating systems including Grub settings and data in the respective operating systems.
Forget it, you can only make a backup, the settings and everything still had to be redone.
If you make a partition, your data will be preserved with the partition.
For example with clonezilla. Burn the image to the stick, boot it and transfer the HDD to the SSD.
Sounds good.
Sry… This is cheese beyond compare.
One restriction (but only means more work, not that it might not work): If the SSD is smaller than the HDD, then the partitions on the HDD must first be reduced in size and pushed together so that the total volume is then smaller / equal the SSD capacity will be.
Sometimes you mess around for a long time.
Depending on the SSD, a program can even be supplied to help you clone the whole thing. For example, Acronis True Image would be included with Crucial.
Nah, the SSD would be bigger. But thanks for the hint
That's even worse - you have to think about what to do with the remaining disk space…
I would do that with my self-burned Clonezilla live DVD.
Drag an image backup from the HDD to an external USB hard drive, install the SSD and then save the backup via Clonezilla live DVD from the ext. Restore the USB hard drive to the new SSD. That would be done within an hour without data loss. The new SSD should not be smaller than the HDD, otherwise you unfortunately have to improvise.
