In laptops without numpad, the numpad is a second assignment of letter keys. When you turn on the Num Lock, the right part of the keyboard types numbers instead of letters. For example, on my laptop, the asterisk of the numpad is placed on the letter P.
If you mean the multiplier "*", SHIFT + Plus next to the Enter key.
